Entries from February 2008
I’m making sure everyone knows that the Knitter’s Knook Grand Opening is this Saturday March 1 10am to 4pm. Becky said there will be fabulous door prizes (hmm, the more people I tell the less a chance I have of winning.. OK. so y’all go buy yarn and stuff but don’t enter for the door prizes ok?) and refreshments!
Hope everyone can make it out!
OH, I almost forgot, there could very well possibly be 20% off on Saturday too…
And I’m knitting again!!

OK, here’s a load of pictures for y’all since you’ve patient sat through several picture-less posts.
First off, here’s my pomegrante:

Here it is with a skein of Cascade 220 for comparison:

Here’s December’s fiber club fiber. It’s titled Party Dress. And even though it was taken at night with poor lighting, yes, it really is almost that bright. It’s kinda fun:

Lastly, here’s the latest on the wheel. The picture does Nothing for the color. It’s called Sandstone and is a lovely blend of merino, tencel, firestar and angelina. It’s orange and gray and sparkly and much prettier than I’m making it sound!

Well, we have good news, bad news and good news.
The good news: I figured out what’s been aggravating my arm and causing tendonitis/tennis elbow.
The Bad news: It’s a daily work function (no, it’s not all work related so I’m not filing workers comp).
The Good new: I think I’ve rearranged everything to “fix” the problem. I still have to do this work but I think (and hope!) this set up will work.
The bad news: my wrist/elbow hurt again. BUT no where near like they did. So again, I’m holding off on the knitting for a little while longer.
Now, anyone have a jumbo ball winder that’ll wind 435 yards of handspun that’s sort of sport weightish? Cuz I’m really thinking this yarn needs to be socks…
Sorry there aren’t any pictures, I’ll post some later to make up to you. Must go rest wrist…

Two corrections to yesterday’s post:
It’s “pomegrante” not persimmon (that should teach me to type before I reread the label but it won’t!) and it’s approx. 435 yards. I think I smell socks!!!!!

Pepper is a Cat. Yes, Bartholamew may look like a cat but he doesn’t act like the stereotypical cat. Pepper does. So I bought my Cat a Cat Scratcher… Thankfully, she loves it!!

I found it from Crazy Aunt Purl’s blog. And thankfully, Pepper uses it for scratching not just lounging too.
I’m still not knitting. I can only manage this because I discovered I could spin easily in my brace.
Maybe too easily:

That’s the jumbo plying head flyer/bobbin thing too that’s cram full. The “joy” now is transferring to the niddy-noddy. Its only like eleventybillion yards… (phrase also somewhat borrowed from Crazy Aunt Purl).
The fiber is some I got at SAFF unknown wool, the colorway is persimmon. It’s been fun to spin. And honestly I am interested in knowing how many yards it is.
Lastly, I’d like to direct you to Dotty’s blog. She got her prize package from me today!

Ya know what, I cuss. A lot sometimes. However, I know there’s a proper time and place and all that. So many of you who know me in person may not realize that I’m a cusser… the point of all this you ask? Well, at this time and this place I’m gonna cuss. If you’re especially sensitive, it’s ok to turn away, stop reading or whatever, I don’t care. Right now I have the “it’s my blog and I’ll do what I want” kind of attitude. Please though, if you do stop reading today, do come back… y’all know I don’t cuss here on a regular basis.
Now, all that being said… I’m getting so fed up with this brace already. Maybe it’s the getting used to it.. thats what I keep telling myself but when the fuck does it get easier?!?! I cried at work on Friday because I was so annoyed at the things I couldn’t do or that it took me 3 times longer to do. (and yes, this whole “crying when not sad” is one of my biggest pet peeves about myself. Nothing like being so pissed you could spit nails and have the tears start to flow…) Driving is weird, even holding a damn book is awkward!! I’ve given up and started taking the brace off to get dressed or change clothes. My Mom and I went shopping today for her upcoming birthday party, I couldn’t help her pick up the heavy stuff and after the cart got very full I had to have help turning the corners. Grrrrrrr…..
And let’s not even get started on the fact that I have short little hands and two of the metal supports are already rubbing spots on my pinky and 1st finger joints. And I can’t even knit. OK, so maybe I can but I’m doing everything I can not to right now so hopefully this heals up and doesn’t become reoccurring.
I’m just fuckin’ sick of it already…
So, if you’ve gotten this far, thank you
I wish I had some pictures to show you… but I don’t. I can tell you though that I got some delightful “Mountain Mohair” from Becky at Knitter’s Knook (that was our first stop today…) and have done enough reading online that I think I could knit two socks on two circs in my sleep tonight but who knows how I’ll make out in reality. And I really am still reading all my regular blogs but sometimes typing is hard. Sometimes I just gotta bitch and so put up with it to get out a blog post…
And I’d also like to say here publicly that all of your comments, both here on the blog, by email or in person really do make a girl feel good. Thank you. Thank y’all!!
So now, we return you to your regularly scheduled blog reading…

I’ve been trying very hard to post every other day (since the everyday thing doesn’t seem to swing with me). Since I’ve been doing so well lately I thought I’d let y’all know why I may be a little more sporadic.
I’m very afraid I have carpal tunnel in my right hand/wrist. I have a doctors appointment on Friday to hopefully NOT confirm my fears and if I do I’m hoping that surgery is not the answer.
So in preparation (and well because it hurts) I’m limiting my at home online activities that involve typing. (So reading blogs and reading Ravelry are somewhat OK but I’m still limiting the time I”m here.)
AND I’m limiting my knitting time each day. This is the hardest for me to do but I’m really not a “oh let’s go have surgery” kind of gal…
But just for fun, here’s a photo I took just the other day. If y’all want to guess where I was or whatnot feel free. I will tell you… (and not in weeks on end either…)
OK, that wasn’t a good enough picture:

Well, I promised FO’s and here they are!
First there’s the 2nd dinosaur and now, really and officially the next dinosaur is MINE!

Here’s the first completely finished Marvelous Mitt:

Lastly we have a quick little baby hat. A friend of mine at work is going to be a grandmother and I wanted to whip up a little something so here we go:

very quick knit, very well written pattern. I enjoyed knitting with the Mission Falls 1824 wool and the best part (for the new Mom anyway) is that it’s superwash! All the joys of wool and all the goodness of machine washable! Everyone wins! The pattern says it can fit up to an 18 month old and that’s a good thing. A hand knit baby wearable that’ll last more than a month or two.
I’m planning on going back to Becky’s to get more so I can make my nephew a new hat too. I think his little newborn hat I made him is way too small now.
I hope y’all had a wonderful weekend!

Or prize #2… I’m not sure.
Either way it doesn’t matter… Deb got her package today so I can show you what she got. Or some of it. I didn’t manage to take a picture!
She got two balls of Universal Yarn Co. Deluxe Worsted LP:

in shades of blue.
I also sent her some stitch markers (cuz we all need more of those right?) and a cute little sheep figure.
Deb also told me that she’s been involved in other contests where the prizes were never sent out. How sad is that…
Coming soon finished projects (I hope! well, I do have some finished ones but I want two more finished soon), and my first Ravelry swap! (in which I also forgot to take pictures before I sent the package).
Have a great weekend, y’all!
